MNSA Board Buddy Program

What are the benefits of being on the MNSA board?

- Serving on the MNSA Board of Directors helps prepare any nursing student for the professionalism and leadership that are required in the workforce. Leadership skills are polished while learning about the meeting process, networking with other student leaders on a state and national level, and promoting the profession of nursing. Through networking with other nursing students, MNSA Board members provide support and form relationships that last far beyond their one year commitment. Another great benefit of joining the MNSA Board of Directors is the opportunity to witness the importance of a professional organization firsthand through a close relationship with the Michigan Nurses Association. The MNA provides support staff for MNSA and keeps MNSA informed about important legislative initiatives that affect nurses.

What kind of time commitment is involved?

-The MNSA Board meets on a monthly basis, usually on Saturdays for 6-8 hours in Okemos at the MNA Building. There are also two overnight meetings required during the months of May and December to discuss convention details. Travel is also involved, with most Board members traveling to either the Annual or Midyear NSNA Conventions to represent the State of Michigan. Almost all travel expenses are pre-approved by the Board of Directors and reimbursable.

How can I check out a meeting to see if being on the MNSA board is right for me?

-There is an annual Board Buddy Meeting in December. See the MNSA website for more details.

When are the MNSA board elections?

-At the annual MNSA Convention
