MNSA Board Buddy Program

  • What is MNSA?

-MNSA (Michigan Nursing Students Association) is a professional organization for nursing students! Through its members, the MNSA works to create environments where nursing students can achieve their full potential. The MNSA provides leadership to its members and the public as the voice of nursing students in the state of Michigan. The MNSA is committed to providing its members with the highest quality resources, such as conferences, conventions, guidance, mentoring, an updated website, and newsletters.  The MNSA is run by an elected twelve member board that is made up of nursing students from all across the state of Michigan.

  • What are the benefits of being on the MNSA board?

- Serving on the MNSA Board of Directors helps prepare any nursing student for the professionalism and leadership that are required in the workforce. Leadership skills are polished while learning about the meeting process, networking with other student leaders on a state and national level, and promoting the profession of nursing. Through networking with other nursing students, MNSA Board members provide support and form relationships that last far beyond their one year commitment. Another great benefit of joining the MNSA Board of Directors is the opportunity to witness the importance of a professional organization firsthand through a close relationship with the Michigan Nurses Association. The MNA provides support staff for MNSA and keeps MNSA informed about important legislative initiatives that affect nurses.

  • What kind of time commitment is involved?

-The MNSA Board meets on a monthly basis, usually on Saturdays for 6-8 hours in Okemos at the MNA Building. There are also two overnight meetings required during the months of May and December to discuss convention details. Travel is also involved, with most Board members traveling to either the Annual or Midyear NSNA Conventions to represent the State of Michigan. Almost all travel expenses are pre-approved by the Board of Directors and reimbursable.

  • How can I check out a meeting to see if being on the MNSA board is right for me?

-Sign up today or contact me (Christina Schwarz) using the phone or the email listed below, and you can experience our Christmas board meeting with free transportation and lunch provided! Please come experience this fun Board Buddy meeting, on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 from 9am-12noon in Okemos, MI! There’s no reason not to come!

  • When are the MNSA board elections?

-Voting and elections will be done on Saturday, February 7th, 2009 in the House of Delegates at the MNSA State Convention.
